Creating and Publishing a Test

The steps in this document prepare you for creating a new test.  The prerequisites are:

  • You have role permissions to add tests and publish tests
  • A form has already been created - note the name of the Form so you can use it later

Create New Test → Publish Test → Create New Practice Test, Administration or Delivery

 

Pay special attention to the names you give to each of these pieces.  There may be subtle differences among them.

Create New Test

Step one is to create a new test using an existing form.  Similar to how the Form is the package holding the content (Instructions, Sections and Items), the Test is the package holding the Forms.  

The test configuration defines:

  • which forms are used (using accommodation rules or spiraled)
  • connection information to OSCAR

The settings and overrides define:

  • Test type (dynamic - deliveries, practice - practice tests and scheduled - administrations)
  • Secure Access for Kiosk settings (requiring the lockdown browser) 
  • Access Window - determines when the test is available as a Delivery, Practice Test or Administration
  • TTS enabled or disabled for Practice Tests

  1. Navigate in ADAM to Test Management | Tests
  2. Click the Create New button
  3. Complete Test Config, then choose the Next button

  Optional replaces the public display of the Test Name if used

  Choose bank where the Forms exist for this Test

Choose either Spiral or Accommodation

Then choose the forms

Spiral - Choose the Form from the DDL, pressing the Add button after each Form selected from the DDL

Accommodation - if you are delivering specific forms based on student accommodations

  1. Choose the accommodation type
  2. Choose the form for that accommodation

  Metadata

Contains Test specific metadata

  Human Scoring Settings

If you are configuring scoring to be performed by OSCAR, then the corresponding OSCAR fields need to be configured.  Discuss configuration with MZD support
  Miscellaneous Settings

Various other test settings including:

  • Student Form Selection
  • Disable Manual Submit of Test Session
  • Disable Auto Submit
  • Maximum Test Attempts
  • Disable Unsubmit Sessions

4. Complete Settings and Overrides, then choose the Next button

This setting determines if this Test is visible for each of the Test Types.  One or all of the test types can be selected:

  • Dynamic - allows this test to be used when creating Deliveries
  • Practice - allows this test to be used when creating Practice Tests
  • Scheduled - allows this test to be used when creating Administrations

This setting determines what information is collect to:

  • authenticate the student
  • collect or display other information during the student log in process

  Secure Access
  Kiosk Only

Does this test require the use of the Lockdown Browser?

  • Set a default value that can be changed when creating the PT, ADMIN or DELIVERY (Allow)
  • Set here and do not allow changes when creating the PT, ADMIN or DELIVERY (Lock)
  • Do not set a value here and defer to when creating the PT, ADMIN or DELIVERY (Defer)

  Delivery Mode
  Strict Mode

Does this Delivery only allow students in the upload file to take the test?

  • Set a default value that can be changed when creating the DELIVERY (Allow)
  • Set here and do not allow changes when creating the DELIVERY (Lock)
  • Do not set a value here and defer to when creating the DELIVERY (Defer)

  Access       Window
  • Set a default value that can be changed when creating the PT, ADMIN or DELIVERY (Allow)
  • Set here and do not allow changes when creating the PT, ADMIN or DELIVERY (Lock)
  • Do not set a value here and defer to when creating the PT, ADMIN or DELIVERY (Defer)

  Auto-Enable   TTS

Check this if you want TTS enabled for the Practice Test.  If you want a practice test with TTS and a practice test without TTS, you will need to create two tests (Allow)

  Data/Accessibility

Allow Not Reseated

When enabled, the students can re-enter the test after exiting without Proctor approval (reseating)


5. Confirm your choices on the Program Settings page, then choose the Submit button


6. Confirm your choices on the Review page, then choose the Submit button OR choose to publish this test by choosing the Save & Publish option

Publish the Test

Step two is to publish the test.  You must publish a test before it becomes available for creating Deliveries, Practice Tests or Administrations.  Publishing allows you to control which tests are available based on the user’s Org Scope when they create  Deliveries, Practice Tests or Administrations.

 

Changes to which orgs a test is published, only affects the Test DDL when creating new Deliveries, Practice Tests or Administrations.  It does not change a user’s access to existing Deliveries, Practice Tests or Administrations.

 

  1. Choose the check mark in front of the Organization to add a single organization
  2. Set the check box in front of the Organization to add all the children of the organization
  3. Chose the Submit button

 

Once a Form has been used to create a Test and the Test has been Published...it can now be used to create Practice Tests, Administrations and Deliveries.
