Now that the class exists, the students are added and the assessment is added...we can start prepping OSCAR Classroom for the scoring. We do this within a specific class and assessment on the Assessment Dashboard page.
At this point, let's assume the assessment/assignment has been proctored and we are waiting for the student work to get back to us so it can be scored.
There are two ways for the student work to be uploaded into OSCAR Classroom so it can be scored. Either you are going to do it or the students are going to do it.
Getting Work into OSCAR
Option 1: Doing it yourself
If you have the completed assignment/assessment all you need is a file of the work. That could be an image file, a pdf, a picture from your phone, a movie file...something that can be uploaded. Each student's work needs to be a separate file.
QR Codes
One very quick method is to utilize the QR codes we discussed while adding students.
- Take a picture of the QR code associated with the student's work.
- Your phone will ask you if you want to open the web location tied to the QR code...indicate yes.
- You will be prompted to take a picture of the work
- This process has added the work to OSCAR Classroom and associated it with the appropriate student and assessment.
Upload Work
If you already have data files for the students work you might prefer to upload the work into OSCAR Classroom.
- From within your class and assessment choose the Upload Work button. This is found above the specific instance of the assessment (only necessary when you are performing pre and post of the same assessment). This opens a Response page for your assessment. NOTE: The filled icon identifies work has already been added. The empty icon identifies that work needs to be downloaded.
- Click the button to choose to upload the file from either a computer location or a google drive location.
- Once your file location opens, select the file(s) to upload.
- Once back on the Responses page, you will see the file(s) you uploaded.
- Drag the file (from the right side 'Files') to the appropriate Student (on the left side)
The blue labels on the Student indicate how many files are associated with each student. The blue labels on the Files indicate how many students that file is associated with. Click on a Student or File to see how they are assigned.
Files can be reassigned by deleting the file from the Student (use the arrow to the right of the student to expand the student). Then dragging the file to the new student. Deleting work from a student cannot be done once scoring is complete.
Option 2: Letting the Student Do It
Many times our students are completing work at home, remotely or at least somewhere that collecting the work yourself is not convenient or practical. In that case, we might rely on the student or guardian to upload the work themselves.
QR Codes
The great thing about QR codes is that the student isn't required to have an email address and it is such a simple process. There would be many different ways to accomplish this, but let's put out one example that you will be able to work with.
- Send the worksheet/assessment home with the student...included at the top of their paper is a unique QR code for the student.
- Once the student finishes the assignment/assessment, they first take a picture of the QR code
- Their phone will ask if they want to open the web location tied to the QR code...indicate yes.
- The student is prompted to take a picture of their work
- This process has added the work to OSCAR Classroom and associated it with this student and assessment.
Setting the Submission Rules
Before requesting the student work, you can set up some controls on when the student can submit work. This is done from within the class and assessment.
- Find the Donut Report on Students with Work
- Click the icon to set the submission rules.
- Set the rules for Start and End Dates and times
Request Work From Students
Once you are ready to start collecting the work from the students, you can make a request to have the student upload their work.
- From within your class and assessment choose the Request Work From Students button. This is found above the specific instance of the assessment (only necessary when you are performing pre and post of the same assessment). This opens the Request Student Work page.
- The button provides for three different send options
- To All Students - the request for returning work is sent to all the students
- To Un-emailed Students - the request for returning work is only sent to those students who have not already been sent the email
- To Selected Students - the request for returning work is only sent to those pre selected students
- The student receives an email with a link to upload their documents from either a file location or google drive. The link is specific to the student and the assessment.
- The work is sent directly into OSCAR Classroom...ready to score,
